eIRB Refresh Project - NIH PROTECT eIRB
After careful analysis and many discussions, in summer of 2021, Huron IRB was selected as our new vendor! The project officially initiated on September 30, 2021, and the new system will “go live” in October of 2022.
Currently, members of the NIH intramural community are actively being engaged to provide input to help us shape the new system. In spring and summer, we will begin testing the new system, and encourage the NIH intramural community to get involved. Please reach out to us if you are interested in being a tester.
Additionally, in summer and fall, a robust education and training program for the new system will be provided to ensure all have a strong understanding around how to use the new system.
We appreciate the input and engagement of the NIH Intramural community thus far, and look forward to your continued participation. Please be on the lookout for additional communications in the near future with more information about the project!

Testing
If you have an interest in being an end user tester for the eIRB system this spring and summer 2022 please complete the eIRB System - End User Testing Interest Poll survey. We look forward to testing and learning with you, and most importantly getting your thoughts and feedback!

We will have multiple in person and virtual trainings for the new system. Please return here for upcoming dates that will be posted later on this year.
Timeline
Migration Dates
The implementation of the Huron eIRB system is well underway, and we are getting closer to our go live date in October 2022. In preparation, protocol submissions must be sent in advance. This will allow the IRB office and other ancillary offices time to process in flight submissions prior to the migration from iRIS iMedris (which will be kept in a read only state), to the new Huron eIRB system, to prevent a lag in the review of research.
Upcoming Events
Please join us on Tuesday May 31, 2022 for an eIRB “roadshow” event where we will deliver a demonstration and a first look of the new system.
We will provide an overview of:'
- the eIRB Vendor
- the eIRB Platform including the features and highlights of the system
- the Implementation Timeline and Logistics of the Implementation
- Any known business process implications and changes
